Immigration: The Thread that Holds Us Together is Being Unraveled
The LWV Ames & Story County and the Ames Public Library invite the public to our program “Immigration: The Thread That Holds Us Together is Being Unraveled” on Nov. 20th, 7:00 p.m. at the Ames Public Library. Susan Benner has worked with the immigrant community in Ames for over 20 years. She is currently involved with the Ames Area Immigrant Emergency Fund, Ames Ares Immigrant Network, and serves as co-coordinator for the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice Story County Immigration Clinics.
Susan will share definitions and concepts to help us understand the immigrant and refugee status. She will share the realities and statistics about those who are members of our community and workforce. There will be discussion of the current ICE and immigrant enforcement across the country and in Iowa and will share how we can support our immigrant neighbors.
